How To Care For Your KuraTitanium

KuraTitanium is built to last 25 years. Here's how to make sure it does.

Most of these steps are obvious. We're including them anyway because "obvious" varies between cooks, and the difference between a pan that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 25 is mostly in the first month.

First Use

  1. Wash with warm water and a soft sponge
  2. Dry with a clean towel
  3. Rub a thin layer of cooking oil on the cooking surface
  4. Heat empty on medium for 60 seconds, then turn off
  5. Wipe with paper towel — you're ready to cook

This conditions the titanium surface and removes any factory residue. Titanium is naturally non-stick, and this step ensures you get that performance from the very first cook.

Daily Use

Heat

  • Medium heat for most cooking. Titanium distributes heat well — you don't need to crank it
  • Maximum stovetop temperature: visible smoking. Never preheat empty past 5 minutes
  • Maximum oven temperature: 300°C, broiler included

Utensils

  • Silicone, wood, or nylon are best
  • Metal utensils are tolerated — titanium is extremely hard and resists scratching
  • Avoid sharp metal whisks pressing forcefully into the surface

Oils

  • Most oils work: olive, butter, ghee, neutral oils, animal fats
  • Avoid aerosol cooking sprays — they leave a polymer residue that's hard to remove
  • Use enough oil to coat the surface; a thin film gives the best non-stick results

Cleaning

Best method (extends pan life by years):

  1. Let the pan cool naturally for 10 minutes (don't shock with cold water)
  2. Wipe with paper towel to remove most residue
  3. Wash with warm water and a soft sponge
  4. Dry with a clean towel
  5. Store

Dishwasher: The pan is dishwasher-safe. Titanium is extremely durable and handles dishwasher cycles well. We still recommend hand-washing as it keeps the surface in peak condition longer. If using dishwasher: top rack only, away from the heating element.

For stuck-on food: Soak in warm water for 15 minutes. For tough cases: simmer 1cm of water with a teaspoon of baking soda for 5 minutes, then wash normally. Never use steel wool or harsh abrasive cleaners.

Storage

  • Use a soft cloth, paper towel, or dedicated pan protector between stacked pans
  • Hanging is best — wall hooks or a ceiling rack
  • Don't store wet — moisture trapped between stacked pans can cause surface marks over years

Knives

  • Hone weekly with a honing rod; sharpen every 6 months with a whetstone
  • Never use the dishwasher — heat and moisture damage the blade edge
  • Wipe immediately after each use; dry completely before storing
  • Best storage: magnetic strip on the wall

Cutting Boards

  • Wash with warm water and dish soap; never put in dishwasher
  • Towel dry, then air dry on edge for 30 minutes before storing
  • Apply mineral oil monthly on all surfaces; let absorb 4 hours, wipe excess
  • For raw meat: spray with white vinegar or 3% hydrogen peroxide, let sit 5 min, rinse

Common Mistakes That Reduce Pan Life

  1. Preheating empty on high for 5+ minutes — thermal stress on any cookware
  2. Pouring cold water into a very hot pan — thermal shock can cause warping
  3. Cleaning with steel wool or abrasive pads — unnecessary on titanium, can leave scratches
  4. Stacking pans without protection — cosmetic surface marks

If you do any of these once, the pan will probably be fine. Repeated abuse is what causes long-term issues.
